It is very hard for projectors to see themselves. We’re always looking at each other. So as Projectors, to best understand how we work, we can study each other. Through observing other projectors we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves: how our auras work, what it’s like to receive a true invitation, what real recognition feels like, how bitterness can fester and seep into our relationships, what success really is. Ra said that in working with couples, it is much easier to coach Generators because you can tell a Generator to go work on themselves and they do. They have the self-focus and energy to do it. But if you tell a Projector to work on themselves they go away and start looking at everyone else.
I come from a family of Projectors. My mother is a Splenic Projector and my sister is a Mental Projector like I am. I grew up in a household that was, for the most part, made up of just the three of us. Through that experience, I got to study the Projector process long before I knew about Human Design and the terms used to describe type. I knew the feelings of inadequacy, overwhelm, exhaustion, and constant overdoing that are so common among Projectors. I experienced the persistent pull to focus on others and be constantly oriented toward relationships over self. I saw the immense value others placed on our attention and how we were all often the guides and confidantes to our friends. I knew how rarely we said “no” when asked for help, favors, attention, and energy and the toll that took on our physical and mental health. And I knew about bitterness, in all of its flavors, from resentment to hatred to toxic negativity that would result from feeling invisible, full with other people, and empty of ourselves.
After my first few years experimenting with Human Design, a close friend suggested starting a small Projector Group. We met weekly on the phone and a few times per year for retreats over several years. Through witnessing, studying, and supporting them, I learned to value what it is to be a Projector. I could see, value, and understand them in a way that I couldn’t for myself. Together we brought our focus out of the conditioned world and toward our nature, our true gifts, our true worth. And when that wasn’t happening, we got to commiserate and find companionship in our exhaustion, tears, and bitterness.
The greatest value in Human Design comes from the experience of living it and coming to know what all of the information actually means when we experience it in our bodies and in our relationships. Being with and studying with other Projectors brought Human Design to life for me and I think it is one of the best ways we can come to respect what we are and what we are here for. It is also one of the best ways to endure the waiting and the wishing for things to be different.
Human Design is unique as a modality because it doesn’t promise change. Instead, it holds the possibility of being awake and of being truly surrendered to what is. It can orient us toward the beauty and the perfection of the design. Ra said, “Only when you find surrender in your own beauty do you put love in the aura of the world. What changes the aura of our planet is human beings living their nature.” Through the domination of conditioning around us, it is easy to underestimate our value. But when we are recognized for our gifts, we are able to bring wisdom and guidance to a world in desperate need of truth, love, and beauty.
In this spirit, as a fellow Projector, I invite you to awaken to the perfection of your design, the way your body and energy work, and the mechanics of your relationships with others. I invite you to discover that the blame, frustration, bitterness, anger, and disappointment in yourself and in the people around you can give way to respect and acceptance. I invite you to allow yourself to be what you are and allow others to be themselves in a way that frees everyone from the control we try to exert on life, to make it what we think it should be, what we’ve been taught it should be.
I invite you to gather as many designs as you can of the people in your life and to study them, and study what you become with them – especially if you have a lot of openness. And then tell your Projector friends about it, because they’ll have lots to say about your experience too.
As we guide and recognize each other, we are better able to be recognized in our lives. For every correct invitation we accept, we become more visible in a way that is fulfilling.
For however long you are here and in whatever way you stay or go, we wish you strength and courage for your journey, nourishment for your body and soul, and the blessing that you may succeed as yourself.
